ok Im seriously looking into importing a car next year. I currently own a 1990 toyota supra turbo and have rebuilt the 7m my self(its almost done just needs a battery and a slave cyclender lol) And am looking into importing a mr2(must have t-top) or a 1jz mk3 supra(not a type R must be targa).

Ok I realize this could be like comparing apple and oranges but I will try my best to look at it through the pros and cons best I can.

Suspension
Ok first Off I would like to say in all of my cars I have owned handling has never been a big thing IM more of a straight line type of guy but good handling is still a plus anyways carying on.....
Hands down the mr-2 im assuming wins that one. I hear it is hard to control But is much much lighter and suspension is much better designed. im from far a stupid driver and would take the time to learn how to handle the mr-2 on its own. I would also be looking for a 93+(not sure if thats the same year for the jdm ones) with the new desgined suspenion and larger rear tires. The mk3 handles well and even better with aftermarket suspension but IS probaly still no where near as good as the mr-2
braking
Well im pretty sure obivously wich one wins that one :sarcasm:
exterior
Both looks cool And I love the looks off both. They both have the open roof option wich is what i want so that is great!
Interior
Im still in the process of resarching the mr-2 on that one. But I belive it comes already with all the power options and such and a 6 or 7 speaker system. The supra i would get a 91-92 for the better stock sound system and easier to put bigger aftermarket speakers in later. Also subs Would seem alot easier to put in a supra...as for the mr-2 I dunno how easy putting subs in would be. The supra im assuming would proably have a bit more luxry then the mr-2 with 8 way power seats, lumbar control and a few other gimics. Also the most obivous thing is the number seats 4 vrs 2, that is not an over big thing to me as I never usually have more then me or mabye another person with me. Trunk space would go to the supra on that one with the folding down rear seats as well.
Drivetrain
now the big and probaly most important part of the engine. Both have good aftermarket(3s probaly has better but not an overally big thing) Im not very familair with the 3s-gte But I know the 1jz-gte IS a very solid engine that can take alot. Now here are some questions i was wondering. How reliable is the 3s-gte and how much power can it reliable make on stock internals? Im assuming the 1jz-gte is farly easy to work on (the 7m is farly easy as far As i have seen) but How easy is it too work on the 3S-gte being that its mid engine and looks like it is tuff to get in on it????If I could get the gen3 engine(It came with alot of updates like ct-20B, metal headgaset and some other things) that be alot sweeter but I belive they only came on the 94+ wich wouldn't be avaible to import for another year or 2.

I have been leaning towards the mr-2 as it seems more like an all out sports car and thats more what I want. I relaize ppl will be biased to each car but thats why i posted on the supra and mr-2 forums to get a feel for each side of the story.

If u have any input or any other info feel free to share.

from reading wikipedia...the SW20 suspension will never be able to compete with the AW11's suspension. why you ask? because toyota had lotus tune the suspension for the AW11, so if i had a choice...AW11 > SW20. another plus is that the AW11 had a SC option!!! so if you find one, get one!

From the sounds of it, you want a luxury car with power, and handling... which is super hard to get.
And you seem pretty concerned with a soundsystem... from the MR2's that i've been in, thats hopeless and you'll be putting the sub in the front trunk... but why import a car, and fill it with audio shit? that almost seems pointless...

if you want quick and nimble with some power, get the mr2, but its a bitch to work on those...

you want easy power, and what i consider really easy to work on, get a supra... and then you can fill it whatever you want, subs, speakers, amps, and big turbos...

Just my opinion, dont take it too personally.

+1. unless you're into autoX or somethin where you'll need good handling and a light car, get the Supra. 1jz? personally 500+rwhp potential on stock internals doesn't sound too bad to me, and you'll have a good lookin car with a solid, reliable engine. i don't really like the way mr2's look or how gay they seem to be to work on, so just like rennat, it's just my opinion.

Why the fuck would you pay to import an MR2? They sold those over here :nono:

450rwhp on stock internal 1JZ? You can do more than that on a 7M, way more on a 1J, 2JZs don't even need aftermarket internals lol

Back to the Left.
3S-GTE is a very strong motor, but it sounds like the Supra fits your criteria better. Another option (please don't flame for this) is the GA70. You sound like maybe the JDM/RHD is pretty important, more than performance. The 1G-GTE made around 210 hp, twin turbo 2.0 inline 6. They were available in a lighter narrow-body which is not as common here. They are also pretty cheap, and there is no reason you can't swap out the 1G later.

Lastly, depending on your $$$, the RHD Mk 4s are coming to Canada ('93 in Japan= '08 in Canada). I've seen 2 TT's for sale for around $22000 in Vancouver. That's about 10g cheaper than LHD Mk 4 TTs.
