jdm engines

i recently swapped a jdm 7mge into my neighbors car, since the day we got it all hooked up the timing has been weird. i have reset it like ten times to tdc and then set the rotor button to #1 on the cap. the car starts perfect every time but the timing is at like +10 instead of -10 and the dizzy is turned as far out as it can go and it still wont move far enough to set right.
i checked the cam gears and they are right the plug wires are all right. is jdm timing different? also if you try to drive it it just kinda chokes itsself out and almost dies. any ideas what it could be?

obviously one tooth out! pull it out and realign the dizzy/cps

i thought so too. i tried to pull it out and redo it like that both ways and it wont start at all.

timing is the same.... i had no issues w/ my motor, we set the timing once and got it right

we took the car to a shop and they said the only way to get the car to run is to set the timing 180deg out.?????? what the hells going on? if you set it right where it needs to be it wont run at all.

Are you setting it on the Compression stroke?

turning the crank clockwise until top dead center. lining up rotor button with #1 on cap and fire away. nothing?????? is there a better way to do it.

You do realise there are 2 x TDC's?

You need both cams closed for TDC Compression stroke.
(cams pointing up)

hmmmm well do i need to make 2 complete rotations on the crank or what?

Depends on where you start!

It needs to be the compression stroke so if you crack #1 plug a touch loose then turn the crank you'll hear a hiss as it comes up!

so then you cant just turn the crank to 0 and it be tdc? i used a chop stick and everytime it gets to 0 thats the top and it starts going down.

Ummm there are 2 x TDC's one on Compression one on Exhaust.

You need the Compression one to set the IGN Timing .

Just do as I said and you'll find the Compression one......
