Hey guys, I've been checking out the forum for a few months now. I picked up my '91 Turbo Targa this past Summer, and have been slowly working on her. I had an '89 Turbo that I pirated a bunch of parts off of and sold her last month. I hated to see her go, but she's in good hands now. As the title says it's a budget build, as I also have a 2009 H3 that I sink money into as well...

When I picked up my '91 she had a BHG, so I towed her straight to a friends shop where he installed a MHG and new alternator for a "friend" price. She runs like a champ now!

She currently sits in a friends paint shop. No worries, I'm keeping her to the factory paint codes - Platinum Silver Mist Metallic. The guy I bought it from had it painted at some point, and he painted over the black trim, so I'm getting that back to black as well. I'm also slowly painting all the metal trim black as well.

Should hopefully get her back from the shop this week, as I've got some new MSW Type 19 silver painted wheels to put on her. They look pretty sweet!

I'll have pics of those soon!

I got some exhaust work done to her when I first got her as well. Had to replace the flex-hose, and I changed out the exhaust to a Monza Performance cat-back. Sounds pretty good compared to the old stuff, and not a bad fit for the price I paid (found it on eBay.) Once again, goes along with the whole budget thing. Let me know what you think! Hey guys - got an update for y'all. Got her back from paint today. I think for the price I paid (remember, I'm on a budget) she turned out pretty well. I kept the factory color, but did the trim in a gloss black. Had the new MSW Type 19's installed on her today as well. Hope y'all like her!

Wow that looks really good! If you don't mine me asking, how much did the paint run you? Did you do any of the prep work or did the shop do all of it?

Any other plans for it or are you just going to enjoy it as it is?

For now I'm planning on keeping it pretty stock. The 7MGTE seems to be running well at the moment, so I'm gonna hang on to it as long as possible. The next step is to get the leather interior redone. That should hopefully happen pretty quickly...

Well, a friend of mine owns a paint shop in town. Therefore I kind of got the hook-up on it. They did all the prep work and even a good bit of body work (fixed several dents that were on it.) I still have some small stuff to do myself, i.e. painting the window trim and stuff like that. But, they did the vast majority of the work. After all was said and done it cost me about $1,400 or so.

Man I gotta say the paint job your friend did on that car looks amazing and with all the clear turn signals and side markers and touch up badges... The car is gorgeous, nicely done sir!

Thanks, I appreciate that! I checked out your build thread as well. Looks like you've put a lot of work into her so far. Looking pretty damn good!

The kicker is.. someone probably paid 24,000.00 at one point to have a car that looked almost as good.. :)

You are probably right! I can assure you that I am no where even close to that figure on this car! All it takes is a little elbow grease and dedication...

Took off the old worn out leather seat covers that were on the car when I bought it, and replaced them with some new Wet Okole neoprene covers. For the price I'm pretty happy with the result!

Added an HKS turbo timer.

Also changed to rear speakers to 4" PolK Audios, and the front speakers to 6.5" Sony's. According to what I've read, mine is one of the late '91's to have the 6.5" door speakers...
