Well, I had the Supra running just great and my #5 son decided to waste his car's engine (seems someone, like me :icon_redf forgot to tell him to watch the oil level) so I "loaned" him the Supra to drive back and forth to work!

He calls me from work to tell me the tranny isn't shifting (again) :3d_frown: So I told him to have it towed home. His older brother took it upon himself to help little Bro out, so he met him at work and called AAA (he even requested a flat bed! ::w00t::

Once I got home I drove it up the block and saw that the speedometer wasn't working again. I just find it incredible that if you lose the speedometer, the tranny loses its ability to shift? What's with that?

So I guess I need to pull it all apart and see what needs replacing and what needs lubricating. :3d_frown:

Okay, so you loan the car to your son... who's either your 5th favorite or his name is #5 which would be VERY odd. The speedo stopped working *again*... so this has happened before but was repaired? Or did it just start working again and you left it at that?

The most common problem is the speedo cable breaks. Disconnect the cable where it connects to the transmission and try spinning it either by hand (very quickly) or with a drill (slowly) while someone watches the gauge.

Is this an automatic? The Auto's computer needs to know how fast you're driving to selsce the proper gear. Unlike newer vehicles this signal is generated by the speedo... no speedo, no shift.

#5 Son (yeah, I got Five Sons and I'm the runt of the family...They all tower over me by three inches, except my #3 who towers over me by 6 inches!

The speedo stopped working "again". i had it fixed, but it didn't take long for it to brake again, less then a hundred miles. :3d_frown:

Yeah, I found out about the no shifting thing! :thumbsdow
