Hey guys,

I am new to the forum and have yet to understand everything on how this forum works. Also I just recently started getting more serious in purchasing a mark 3 so I am not close to being up to speed on all the technical/mechanical things that go into a supra.

I was just wondering if you guys could give me an opinion on whether or not this car is worth investing in.

http://sandiego.craigslist.org/ssd/cto/3109120422.html

They did state that the head gasket might be bust, so I am worried about the process on fixing it and going about it since it would be my first time DIY for HGs.

Sorry if this was mis-posted or done incorrectly. Feel free to let me know so that I can fix it with the proper format or so that when I do make a new thread I can do it correctly.

Thanks for your time!

Well the price isn't terrible, but like Another MkIII said, the car has been involved in a accident and you will need to replace a headgasket. You will need pics to access the car more clearly but it may be more trouble than its worth.

I agree with Canuckrz. Also, if it was ran into a wall and the airbag was deployed, I would doubt that there was only cosmetic damage.

if you find the toyota service manual, inside that there is a couple pages full of chassis measurements,

with these you will be able to determine if the car is straight to factory specs, if you don`t feel confident don`t buy it or have a heavy collision specialist look at it first, the $100 for the expert opinion is a good investment...

seems strange that the engine swap negated to install a new thermostat -- what $30 at most

I agree with all the above. In addition, don't know your specific state law, but here when the airbag blows, it's considered to have a salvaged title, if it was reported to the insurance company. Find out exactly what happened(and at what speed) and look hard at that section of the car. If he didn't report it to the insurance, then yeah it may have a clean title, but may have a shitty rebuild and twisted frame. On top of that... BHG... Have fun lol! This car will need a good inspection and a good investment of time and money. Machine work may be needed on the block/head for the new HG, granted the head isn't warped and you need a replacement all together. If it still turns out you like the car, offer him $1200. That's the most I'd pay for those type of issues, granted the body was good. Oh, and as far as the engine swap, paperwork or it didn't happen. Good luck!

Impressive, "flew out" a 700lb engine from Japan, and yet it still only cost $4k total. There is too much BS in this guys story, run away!
With 15k and some overnight parts from Japan, this will decimate all.

For that kind of money you can have better. Keep in mind, any car in this price range is going to need a good deal of maintenance addressed. ;)

Very interesting. I will be sure to keep all this in mind. Once again thanks for all the opinions!
I hope to own one soon so I can start working on it =)

And wow supra13, that is pretty good body repair you did there!
