I have a lead on a great buy on a '97 Isuzu Hombre (5 speed, 118k, air) with a Vortec 2200 and broken timing chain...

I just need to know if this is an interference engine before I go for it, and since the S10's & Sonoma's shared the same power plant, I was hoping somebody would know if I should grab it up or run away.

Internet searching has turned up nothing, so I would take it that it is a non-interference motor as the owner says, but it's worth double checking ahead of time.

Asking price is $400, $300 if I have him swap back the original rims.

Thanks!

Sometimes the phone is just the easier way to go, so I called the local Isuzu dealer. No to interference, and it's only slated as a 2.3 hour job. Unless I find anything else to worry about, I may be pulling my new DD home soon. :) That's all.

a buddy of mine drove one of those for years (I think it was an older model) and he beat the crap out of it and never took very good care of it. It just kept running.

lol, okay. :) I've been looking for an efficient, cheap, reliable 5 speed 4cyl pickup for a while, and now that my daughter's 240sx tranny took a crap (again) I'm thinking I'll sell her the celica cheap and grab this for myself. Right you are on resale - they don't go for much. KBB has it worth maybe $2k in good condition.

I need some help on putting a value on the 240. Look for a thread on that coming soon, and let me know what you think.
