Intake brackets, what did you use?

Hello,

basically fabricating a low budget intake system for the ol GE motor. I quickly realized if you remove the air box and install an open cone filter, you will loose two of the mounting locations to suspend the intake properly. Your only left with the bracket that attaches to the AFM which doesn't do much but keep it in it's current location. It also tends to just flop down and lean on the inner fender. This bothers me as I would rather drive with a stock intake than a crappy DIY intake. I've picked up a few various brackets and exhaust hangers/clamps and I took it upon myself to engineer something to make it fit properly without sagging. I wanted to turn to the forums for advice, suggestions, pics of other peoples intake installs to see what you all may have done. Yes, I did perform a search and came up fairly empty handed, otherwise I would not have made this post. Maybe I used the search button wrong, no telling. If anyone had pics they could post I'd be extremely happy to see how you made it work. Otherwise, happy tuning to all!

Well to tell you the truth, most say the stock intake is already really good. If you haven't already, upgrade the exhaust (catback) :)

Just farting around with the Ge motor. Seeing what I can do here and there, I believe intake will be the last modification I do that's not compatible to a 1JZ swap. My stock acordian hose is on it's last leg and I have three cone filters sitting around my garage. I figured I could just fab something together and get a cheap intake pipe to replace the broken acordian hose. I guess that doesn't justify the open cone filter as I could use the stock airbox with the intake pipe. Thanks for the fast repsonse :) catback is on the list, after suspension.

i heard you could mod a honda aftermarket intake tube, ya know those silver ones you find on e-bay. but, that's kinda cheesing it. i had a shop cut me a piece of scrap tube to fit and i just polished it. then got turbonetics fittings from a friend.

Can't deny I got a Honda tube from autozone earlier this week. I need to take it to a shop to cut a few inches off, it's too long. Doesn't bother me to cheese it, I only want to run my 7M for a year or two. 1JZ is where I wanna be :) Intake is probably the last of 1JZ non compatible mods I will perform to my 7M. Thanks for the updated though, How does your AFM sit though? I see in your pic you only have one bracket supporting it. Is it touching your inner fender trim? I haven't done much to rig a bracket yet as I need to syphon my gas tank, fuel is too old.

well, true, it only uses one bracket. it sits fine....it does lay on the power steering hoses a little harder then i like, but i just put some heavy duty tape wear it sits until i fab something better down the road. intake helps, but not that noticeable. exhaust is where you wanna open her up. BTW- i know all too well about bad fuel. my baby sat for a year after the head gasket blew. had to drop the tank, flush the tank, replace the pump, filter and sending unit. pain in the ass for not putting in "Stabil", i heard this stuff is supposed to protect the fuel from breakdown that would over time hurt the engine. live & learn.

Okay, please explain how the metal intake pipe affects intake temp when the sensor sits infront of the pipe.

Wade3570,

I fabbed a bracket, I'll try to get you a pick later so you can see how I did it. Really easy to use and do.

Honda Intake = bad

If you want more information, search for it. This was discussed before.

Heat soak.....

Dunno why you guys insist on changing out the intake parts on otherwise stock motors you're NOT going to pick up HP Toyota did a pretty good job for the motors HP level.

As I tried explaining in my original post, my acordian hose is garbage at this point. Need a fix for it and figured why not go with an intake pipe. Not looking for performance, looking to restore to keep her alive right now.

Maybe if you read, you would know i did a search.

I typed in "intake" and found a good topic about this on the second page of the search. This topic:

http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60996&highlight=intake

You may think "why would I look all the way towards the 2nd page?". If you looked at the topics it gave you and made some assumptions for which ones would not pertain to what you said, you would have found that topic.

I typed in "civic intake" and clicked the second thread to get the same thread as above.
