haha, usa
I was watching some street rod show on tv and had a thought...

Could the import scene ever get to the fully customized, with ease, scene that the current street rodders have? Like how they can take a really crappy, rusted out car and restore everything from the chassis to the shift knob.

I can picture shops in the future that would be called "custom imports" or something like that, where they build sport compact cars from nothing; where people build their own chassis and bodies from civics to supras. Do you think this would ever happen?

I've been thinking about this stuff along with how I want to keep my supra until the day I die. I feel as if rust and time will get the better half of my car forcing me to not have that dream of crusing around in my supra with my grandchildren.

I can see it happening - I don't see many cars ever having the status or bringing the same amount of nostalgia that the current stereotypical "Hot Rod" brings though. You never know, however - things change.

I am sure that 20 years from now if you are driving a sedan or some other car, you will get wide-eyed and feel butterflies in your stomach when you see a pristine MkIII at a stoplight, or running down the highway with you.

its already happeneing with the datsun z community, look at the toy. 2000gt, people are already selling them like collector cars, the cars that will probably become the street rods of tomorrow will most likely be the 240's, older supras, MK1 mr2, 1gen rx7's, and yea, the civics, 40 years from now civics will be remembered as the biggest trend in our car market for our generation.

It's easy to pick the cars that will be remembered.

What's the most common street rod today? I'd guess either the 57 Chevy or the 32 Ford coupe.

How common were they when new?

Pick a car from that era that was as rare as the Supra is today. How is that car faring in today's world of street rods? That tells you where the Supra will be eventually.
