Ok I'm working on the fog light rewire and I've tried and tried and can't get it right. My damn guage lights don't even come on anymore. Somebody please help me rewire them correctly for an 87t. I've read diffrent ways and the wire colors that you have to cut and splice just keep changing with diffrent people.HELP:1zhelp:

Get the factory electrical wiring diagram for your year. All you do is change the power source for the fog light relay. It comes from the headlights, and you are changing it to a constant or IGN on source.

I will be straight with you. Don't do anymore work on your car if you can't do this by yourself. There is no shame in paying somebody else to do it.

You can do far more damage than you think...and on an EFI car, that is a very bad thing. There was a thread by a guy that got an electrical fire under the hood doing re-wires :3d_frown:

I was just trying to get mine to work. Then I figured out the switch was broken and how it was supposed to work.. Then I just modded my switch when it was apart..

I am an odd ball though.. ;)

Well, a quick circuit analysis shows whomever came up with that mod shouldn't quit his day job. It'll work but it's not very elegant. I'll need to look at it some more but the first step is not only unnecessary but electrically stupid.

I soldered an additional copper plate inside my switch to redirect power. (can not explain it really, lol) It was not making a connection from one side of the switch to the other and I felt it should have been.. It made mine work when I want them too..;)..

As is: Mine come ON with parking lights, if I turn the fogs on. Then they go off with low beams and on with high beams.

If I switch the fog switch to OFF, no fogs on with parking lights and the fogs go on with low beams and off with high beams..

I did not do that mod.

+1 for people who feel retarded sometimes! Me too!:biglaugh:

Whatever you wire up, it is a good idea to put a fuse inline. When you start jumpering wires and bypassing circuits bad things can happen (like fire) if there is a short or something gets miswired by accident.

I'll drive to San Ramon and you can look at how it was done because I still have no idea how it works. (Big ups to Boostaddctn. See you when you get out of the State Pen in five years. )

Do you have an electrical wiring diagram? If not, here is the fog lights. The control side of the relay is powered from the headlights. The headlights have to be on to activate the fog lamp relay. The switch provides the ground path. To wire without the headlights you simply provide just about any 12v power source. The control side of the relay is very low current. That is the point of a relay. To have low current control high current. I know you understand the concept, I just wanted you to see how simple the circuit is.

The power side is 12v fused that is in series.
