Ignition Ring light never turns off?! huh?!

So I searched numerous key words this afternoon, but I'm still boggled. Upon fixing my overhead lights, I'm sitting in the car today, and I'm waiting for my wife to pull her car out of the driveway for me to pull the MK3 in. I shut the car off and the ignition ring stays lit. So I say OK, maybe there is a delay, or it works with the door jamb switch or power locks or something. So I lock myself in the car. Light still remains on. I'm convinced now there is a sensor in the seat that now controls this... so I arch my butt off the seat like a fool and no luck, green rings remains on. :)

Anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I haven't even recalled ever seeing something like this happen and my search results are vague.

Any thoughts are welcomed.

There's a connection in the ignition tumbler. Put your key or a small screw driver in the very end of the ignition and jiggle it. It should go off.

No there isn't.

It is tied in to the dome light circuit. It is supposed to turn off when the dome light turns off, after having closed the door. It is not supposed to be on while the car is running.

Was your dome light staying on also (should be in the "door" position to check). If not, there's probably a short on the ground side of the circuit between the ignition ring light and the integration relay.

If it is staying on as well, it may think your door is open, so check the door warning light on the dash and see if that is on as well. If it is, then it thinks your door is open.

If it thinks your door is open, it's probably a door switch or the wiring from the door switch to the integration relay.

If it doesn't think your door is open, chances are it is the integration relay itself.

So is it the only think staying on, or not? ;)

Jeff, you are definitely the guy that would know. I just know that on an old 1990 the ring would stay lite and if you put just the tip of the key in and jiggle it it would go off. With the door closed. It seemed like it didnt Click into the off position with the fluid pull the key out and go movement that one would normally do when getting out of the car. This however might have been a coincidence in conjunction with this problem. I havent experienced this in many years now.

Thanks for the interjection Jeff.

Well I know I fixed the dome light recently, I jumpered a ground to another one internal to the dome light so Im going to undo that and test. It's the only change that I made related to your suggestion that could be causing it.

The door switches work because if i manually push them in, the dash warning light and the door panel curb light both shut off.

Thanks for the tip! I will investigate further!
