So I finnally got around to work on the car today. Found out the original owner (a guy) who knows nothing about car drove the supra 7-8K miles ever since the motor swap on the same OIL!!!! It also took me 2 hours to break loose the oil filter. I guess JDM toyota oil filter is all in chineese? Because that oil filter looked old and was on TIGHTTTTTTTTTTTTT. Also took me 1 hour to break the old oil pan bolt to get the oil out.

BLACK OIL AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh

Black oil does not mean that it is bad (another myth)...however, particles in the oil is bad.

A good syn oil will last 8K easy, assuming you're using a good filter (changed at 4K miles)...even a good Group III oil will go 5K no problem.

I am positive that is cheap nonsynthetic oil. The oil filter is toyota oem but does not look like any oem filter I have ever seen in the USA.

LOL...no, it never does and I doubt it ever will JJ ;)

The only way to find out if an oil has lost it's effectiveness is with analysis:
http://www.blackstone-labs.com/

Even some of the less expensive (i.e. cheap) oils will keep doing their job well past the 3000 mile interval the local change shops tell you to do. You're just dumping perfectly good oil...and, helping these guys stay in business.

BTW - All Toyota filters are not the same...the ones made in Thailand are medicore at best. Japanese Denso filter are pretty good.
Take a look at this thread:

How does it take 2 hours to take a oil filter out? were you going from the top? it's super easy from the bottom

Bottom. I even have those oil filter removing tool and used half a can of antisieze stuff. That thing was stuck on tighttt.

The oil drain plug was so damaged and broken that i had to in the end go and buy a bolt removal tool just to get it out. I guess they sat the motor on the floor or in shipping so hard it broke it.

cut the filter open...

I might sound Dumb but I don't anything to cut it open with... My riffle might kill it

Also quick question... The last owner threw in WAY more oil then the car was supposed to have. The oil dip stick was well over the full mark... Is this bad and does it kill the oil pump or even cause the oil pressure gauge to not get any reading?
