How long would it take someone to swap in a fresh pair of stock turbo's on a 1J (that's installed)? Any specialty tools needed? Can it be done in a driveway?

2 guys that I know that have taken them off is OneJoeZee or werewolves182. PM them, they might have some advice for you. I think I'm taking them off next weekend to install a y-pipe.
I removed two sets (both to go single or large twin turbo). Both times it took me appx. 1.5 to 2 hrs. Lots of cursing ensued. I never want to replace the stock twins.
It took you 2 hours to do Mark's twins, wow. The write-up I was sent on how to remove them said 5 hours. Question is, how long total to completely replace the pair with a fresh pair? That is, for a guy who has never done it before.

only worked on it for about 45 mins total and i got the front pipes off and heat shield.
just need to remove the oil lines and what not and then try to remove them
is it easier to remove them from the mani's or remove them and mani's together?

The first time I did it took me 2 hrs. No experience whatsoever with the motor. 2nd time took about the same...maybe a hair less.
It took me about 30mins to get them off, with the motor out of the car. I used a mini sledge and 2 new craftsman 14mm wrenches (broke 1).

When you replace them, put longer vacuum lines on the rear turbo, so you don't have to remove half it again to hook up a boost controller.

It's not that hard. Even for someone with not much experience. Just remember how you took things off and where things go. It's doable in a driveway but don't park behind anyone in case you run into some issues and get agrivated. :biglaugh: Don't want to block anybody in overnight.:biglaugh:
