How far (hp wise) can a stock ECU safely handle?

Hi All,

Out of curiousity, how much HP can you crank out of a stock ECU with say.. LEX AFM, Fuel Cut Defender and provided all the other goodies are in place... larger injectors, and so on.

Reason I ask this is as there is the guy with his 93 toyota pickup (7m) on GTEPowered.com claiming he's still on stock engine management.

What are drawbacks of sticking with your existing stock ECU if you're shooting for say 400rwhp+ as opposed to a piggyback ECU, or a standalone MOTEC and such?

I run straight off the wastegate which will run the car at roughly 29-30psi. VPC/AFC, MSD DIS-4 running off a custom Reg Reimer ECU. It has other odds and ends like an FJO wideband MSD window switch, autometer gauges, etc.

Doesn't look like he is running a STOCK ecu ;)

Reg Reimer ECU = the now defunct techtom (think I spelled that right).

stock ECU. Even with piggy backs I would not go above 500hp. To much ignition unknowns when it comes to timing and fueling.

I'm no expert but he is running 11-1 with 14psi of boost. Somehow that sounds incorrect
But I did not note what he was running for fuel? muzy
