Hi,
I recovered a 92 MK3 with a blown 7MGTE, and a rebuilt 7MGTE with MHG. I've been missing a lot of parts, which I could buy off eBay and Toyota.
The near-entirety of the Intercooler piping is gone, so I thought I'd buy it off Toyota. Here's what's missing:

As you might know, that's all ridiculously expensive. Now I've seen there's kits out there that I can get, but before I do get one, I have one question for those experienced with the 7MGTE:
How close to the Intake can you strip the piping, for it to start and idle?
Here's my thought: I've fixed the timing and pretty much everything, but the engine starts and immediately shuts down in less than a second. I figured that might be because of the fact that the IC Piping isn't there. But shouldn't the engine be sucking air on its own at this point? I know that I would be bypassing the MAF, but I've seen people claiming their engine is running with a broken MAF.
I get no error codes when I try to start it that way, at least with the MAF plugged-in. I get the rapidly blinking Check Engine icon on the dash.
Am I looking the wrong way? Should I get the IC piping done before hoping to see it idle?
Thank you for the time you'll spend helping me out, if you so chose.
