How close to the intake can you be for a 7M to start?

Hi,

I recovered a 92 MK3 with a blown 7MGTE, and a rebuilt 7MGTE with MHG. I've been missing a lot of parts, which I could buy off eBay and Toyota.
The near-entirety of the Intercooler piping is gone, so I thought I'd buy it off Toyota. Here's what's missing:

As you might know, that's all ridiculously expensive. Now I've seen there's kits out there that I can get, but before I do get one, I have one question for those experienced with the 7MGTE:
How close to the Intake can you strip the piping, for it to start and idle?

Here's my thought: I've fixed the timing and pretty much everything, but the engine starts and immediately shuts down in less than a second. I figured that might be because of the fact that the IC Piping isn't there. But shouldn't the engine be sucking air on its own at this point? I know that I would be bypassing the MAF, but I've seen people claiming their engine is running with a broken MAF.
I get no error codes when I try to start it that way, at least with the MAF plugged-in. I get the rapidly blinking Check Engine icon on the dash.

Am I looking the wrong way? Should I get the IC piping done before hoping to see it idle?

Thank you for the time you'll spend helping me out, if you so chose.

Redacted per Title 18 USC Section 798
If there's nothing else wrong with the engine it will start and run without the AFM although it won't idle all that well nor rev over 3000 rpm. In the past I've driven mine around with everything up to the throttle valve pipe missing. In fact made a video just to prove it could be done. The engine will run much better sans plumbing with the AFM though.

Btw your English (I'm assuming you're a French national) is quite good. Not 100% but that's to be expected.

Salut,

On EUDM a least, MAF has a switch to cut fuel pump. You may force fuel pump in the diagnostic connector jumping B+ and FP with a good wire.

I may have some silicon plumbing to sell:

I only miss 17881 from your diagram

@jetjock thank you sir.

@Rollus It is indeed an EUDM, I will try jumping B+/FP tomorrow.

Here's a video of what it does, if that helps.

@Rollus You were spot on. Jumping FP/B+ did the trick. The engine started and rumbled. Thank you very much.
