I notice driving home the other day I pushed in my clutch and felt the pedal give a little.. Hmmm maybe air in the lines??? So I call a fellow Supra owner and volunteers to come by after work and help me bleed the clutch.. Well the pedal felt like it was scraping something when I pushed it in.. Just not a smooth push... Unfortunately I didn't make it home..:3d_frown:

So my bud came by with some tools and we go looking to see what the problem is.. I look at the master cylinder and the fluid is steady running out.. Not leaking on the ground or in the car.. Hmmm. Check out the slave and it is fully extended and the boot around the shaft is blown up like a balloon..

open the bleeder valve and push all the fluid out.. But wait... where's the clutch fork????? pull out a flashlight and hey there it is attatched to the hub along with the fork bracket.. Wow.. so at least one of the 2 bolts that hold the fork bracket was completely sheared off.. Not sure if the other one just vibrated loose or if it sheared off too... So now I get to drop the tranny to replace 2 bolts and put it back in.. Not sure if there is enough room through the dust cover to re-attach the bracket.. :rant:

from memory, there might be enough room. problem would be if the bolt sheared off then there still might be a piece of bolt in the trans. it would suck to try to dig out the remaining bit of bolt through the inspection cover. i've pulled my trans twice, not that hard, could do it in two days, but it sucks hardcore.

I just went through this bro. Both the bolts to the clip holding the release fork we're broke/bent on mine. Don't risk doing it with the tranny in. Yank the engine and trans together will be much easier than what I did. Use permaxtex seal on the bolts when re-installing. You may have to tap and re-thread the holes. Unless you have a hydraulic lift, I suggest pulling the engine and tranny together as it's a PITA to just pull the tranny. Good luck on it.

*Edit* Anyway to formally answer your question. It is possible to replace the bolts through the clutch housing cover. However you need to see what the threads look like. On mine both bolts were almost all the way loose, one of them was broke off and the other was bent. Also my Release fork was scared up some. The bolts are cheap from Toyota few bucks. So if you want to just try getting the old ones out and putting new ones in through the dust cover, it might work for awhile or it might completely fix them. I would get someone with small hands to get in there to find the bolt head etc. if it's broke off.

What would cause this?? I have the ACT HD pressure plate.. Don't know if that's the cause or maybe 1 bolt backed out and the other sheared from stress... ??? Ohh well.. It's going on stands tomorrow and hopefully back on the road Monday morning..

WHEW.... Didn't have to pull the tranny.. I was able to get it done through the dust cover... My guess would be that when I did the R154 conversion the proper bolts were not used for the hook. I bought the right bolts from Toyota and added a little threadlocker on it.. Used valvoline synthetic brake fluid and man.. That clutch seems soooooo smooth... may be coinkidink but anyways I was LUCKY..... I didn't have to drop the whole Tranny for 2 bolts..
