Well today I'm gooing to get my 1j. Well the problem is that after reading all the threads I have'nt been able to come up with a technical reason that this is the best decision. Sometimes I feel like I need to build good old 7m. I want facts about this not opioions. I want to eventually go for the 800hp number. I want to know what is the better motor to do it with. PLEASE NO 7M -1J BEEF. I've read enough of that shit and it gets me no where. 2jz and 1uv not an option.

I think for that amount of HP, building the 7m would be a better plan. 800 HP might be a stretch though. I know we have a few 600+ HP supras. I don't think we have any 800 hp supras though. Good luck either way.

If you've got the money, just do it.
It's a more modern engine... I like it because it's got a serpentine belt ;)
alot of members make that comment. But when I go searching I can't find a 800hp 1j. Not saying that they don't exist it's just that I see more 7ms around 800 more than I see 1j

Yeah, maybe an 800 HP motor, 800 rear wheel is insane, your talking buttloads of cash either way. If your going 1JZ, you figure the price included in the swap, plus all the upgrades. You can build a good one either way but I believe youre going to spend more on the 1J. There is alot to weigh out......you get more displacement with 7M, higher revs with 1J, but that is stock, you're going to have to build the whole thing to handle that much power, so you can build the 7m bottom to handle more revs. I guess personally I think the 7M would be the better choice.

Anybody know who is making the most with a 1J....how much HP?

Just curious.

It's funny that you posted. I was very impressed by you dyno vid. What is you rev limiit , max hp , max tq. I love the 7m and I know that if and when i decide to go for 800hp that either way its giong to cost. I do all the work myself so labor isn't a cost factor. I just read so many horror stories about the 7m. For me its spun bearings. I was also told that it's hard for the 7m to make this type of power boost only because the head doesn't flow those type of numbers to support that power. I read an article on the btc jet. You know.... the 7m that revs something like 10,000. The guy was'nt melting down aftermarket hg at the dragstrip. I have a friend in florida who says there are 800hp 1j all day,but I have'nt seen them. ( believe little of what you here and more of what you see)

I'm so sorry guys if this is annoying . It's just that I am getting ready to go pick the 1j today and well , I am not sure if thats what I really want to do. I know for a fact that eventually I am going for 800hp and I want to make the right choice as far as motors go. I already have the 7m. with customs cams and 3 angle valve job and spun bearing. What makes the matter worst is that my friend spun his bearing in his 7m after I spun mine.

lol I know. That's why I said it. ;)
It seems the "norm" for a high power 1JZ is around 600hp-650hp
But honestly, what more do you want? Anything more than 450-500 isn't technically "streetable".
I'm not saying it's not possible to street drive an 800hp car, but the most you'll be doing it for is bragging rights.
If you're going to build it right away, I, personally would build the 7M. Mainly for the reason it's already there and you'll be spending like $4k to get the 1JZ in and running in factory trim... then there's more.
But honestly, if you want to do the high hp 1JZ thing, go for it. It's a good engine and you can always go 2JZ or 1.5JZ down the road.

I personally feel that if you are so concerned with just how high you can rev, it doesn't matter which motor you get. Overrev=Spun Bearings.

+1 for you doing your homework
I'm not concerned about rev it's just when you are talking numbers like 800hp you tend to get to the 8,ooo rev range.

I ran it just over 6k on the dyno, 6500 on street, it quits pulling as hard after 6k. It still has stock cams, but will have 272's after the group buy happens, I think this will help alot for me, because I already have port/polished head, o/s valves and big turbo. I only pushed 22psi on the dyno, at the moment I am limited by the maft pro, due to fuel cut, but that will be solved also. I made 508 RWHP, around 430 something torque, Something like 635 BHP from the motor now. That would be a good bit higher with manual probably. , i might see like 559 RWHP if it were manual?:dunno: But i loves my auto! I think i still have a good bit more potential from this motor setup with the new cams and higher boost.
