Hello everyone,
I have an '89 turbo...I was told my problem is most likely a faulty relay...
I googled this domain and didnt find any threads relating to this topic...
When my lights are in the on position the drivers side headlight is up and
the passenger side is down...and vise versa in the off position...any info
is greatly appriciated :)

try replacing the relay then. it should only cost you around $3.00 to buy a new one.

If they're both moving, I doubt it's the relay. Have you tried manually winding them both down while the headlights are turned off?

Question for the others: Do our headlights have a position sensor?

Without checking the TSRM (I'm not at home and I can't find it stick on SM), I'd say that the up and down sequence between the left and right sides are off.
So like CRE said, I'd try turning off the lights and manually cranking down the lights.
Since the lights work, the relay is working.

Is it possible the motors were disassembled at one time? Because its possible that the arm that goes on the motor was put back on 180 degrees out from where its supposed to be...that would cause the issue you describe.

OK I'm at home now.
The TSRM shows a separate wire for up and a separate wire for down that branches out to each motor out of the integration relay. So it is not possible for the lights to be out of sequence unless one of the motors are wired wrong after the wire splits to each motor, or if mechanically the motor is clocked wrong. Because I've never looked at the motor, I can't say if it is mechanical. May be the WeezL has something!

If not, there is a pretty comprehensive test section in the TSRM (Body Electrical section).

Did it ever work right?
