If it's always had Coolant and what type also plays a big part in the Corrosion issue not to mention errosion from stray current.

Sorry there's no easy answer to this question.

I'd do all the usual tests to determine if there's any leakage then plan from there.

I've got bubbles coming out of my coolant overflow bottle after every drive. Plus I did the extra bottle trick and it filled it up with coolant.

Also Im loosing quite a bit of water every drive.

For the valve covers(after you do the hg) You only need to use RTV on the front 2 sharp corners where the valve covers go over the caps. Take the valve cover screws to the local bolt shop or auto parts, and match the length/thread pitch to a bolt with a hex head. Get washers for them as well. Put a drop of red lock-tite on the ends of the bolts before you put them in, and they won't vibrate loose. Just one drop. It'll hold it tight, and be easy to get apart later.
I did this close to a year ago, and haven't had any leaks yet.
