so i've been thinking of moving to Texas because of a few reasons. 1. i hate the cold and not being able to shit in the cold. 2. Most of my family is in or around texas. 3. might be able to find a good job down there.
I'll probably try to spend some time down there before i make my descision*, maybe a couple months or more. I'm waiting to finnish tech school to start my research. Im looking at either Dallas or right outside dallas OR Houston.
Im just wondering what kind of advice do you guys have or have anything interesing for me to know.

Thanks,
emp.

your best bet would be to weigh the pros and cons...and then visit/live there for a bit....first hand experience is better than people telling you because they may have different environments down there than you would have

I perosnally dont see how anyone can like Houston....

Dallas is nice, but a lil too big for my tastes...Houston just plain ass sucks except for the Supra Nationals once a year.

Best Texas City=Austin hands down. not too big, not too small, has the hill country which= LOTS of cruise spots, ups and down, hills, great scenery, University of Texas=hot girls=lots of live music...its a really bumpin area. the people are generally nicer there too.

I moved here (N. Texas.. Dallas area) a few years back... I came from the Tampa Bay area, near Clearwater.

I'd agree with JD... Austin is a beautiful place, without the big city feel (AKA nastiness), like Houston and Miami.

The Tampa Bay area is the BOMB! Texas is okay and I'm here for awhile, but we'll be heading back to Tampa, when my son gets out of school in a few years.

Things are okay here, but nothing beats watching the Sun set, while having a grouper sandwich (blackened), and a TALL mug of beer.... At Shepard's!!!!

Basically, I left a vacation paradise (yeah, lots of old ppl too)... I took it for granted... the great weather, low cost of living, and all the great tourist attractions that were right next door.

Here, you have to drive forever to go see/do touristy kind of stuff... waterparks, museums, caves, Space center, Riverwalk... all that mess is far apart from each other. Tampa Bay's got all kinds of attractions and Disney is only 90 minutes away. I used to go party on South Beach about once a month... and that's only 4 hours away (where my family still lives).

Oh... and by the way, before they start bashing Florida 'cause of last year's hurricanes... that is extremely unusual. I grew up there and we never got hit that often before...

Everywhere you go, there will be weather concerns. I seldom saw hail in Florida, here it's kinda common and the insurance companies won't cover broken windows... In Florida, if you just have a crack in your window, they fix it for FREE (no deductible)... at least Geico did.

Also, tornados seem pretty common here too. Again, weather problems are everywhere and they are seasonal.....

Houston suxs, ive lived here all my life and just moved to hunstville for school. Autsin is the place to be. its near san antonio, and New Braunfels the best place in texas, and has everything you can think of. Houston is overcrowded and trashy.

I agree with JD, Dallas seems to get worse every year. (I was just thinking about this the other day) I live right outside of Dallas, I moved here for the same reasons you mentioned. There is good work here though. If you do plan on moving out here, don't live in Dallas, Look at Arlington, Plano, Grapevine, to name a few. they are all just outside of Dallas and don't have nearly the problems.

I'm actually looking to move to CO after being here for about 5 years, IMO, way too many people, It's rush, rush, rush. No good cruising roads, cops are a plague around here. Just not my style. Plus I hate the heat in the summer time. (right now it's 76 outside) But thats just me. It's all up to you. But Austin is way nicer.

i loved right outside dallas, its not too bad except you have to drive a while to get anywhere, cost of living is really cheap (outside of dallas at least) as well as no emissions (outside of dallas)

it gets cold in texas too though, during winter and humidity only makes it worse, ive only seen hail once or twice in a 2 year period while living there

why colorado? cops are worse than anywhere i have been (including texas and california) , emissions people are crooks, it's super dry in co, and it snows more than it should. plus cost of living is way higher than it should be

( a house that would cost 70k in texas would cost 250k here )

I've got family in CO, and I'm an avid snowboarder (have been for about 10 years, I was on the ski team in high school- long time ago) It has always been my "dream" state to live in. I've been there on ski trips and to visit my family and I love it. (I like the cold) I'm still just looking, so.... One thing is for sure, Texas is NOT for me.
