When i'm driving the supra sometimes its hard to shift into 3rd when i'm getting on the trottlebut it i let the rpm's drop a little it will slip nto gear is this a common problem?

i assume you have an automatic? no that just means that your clutchs are shot (i'm pretty sure), and that they wont grab until rpms drop. Iv driven more then a few autos that have the same problem. (my camaro included)

mine does the same thing. has for years. i thought something was wrong also. someone mentioned that the r154 shifts as if you were trying to stir coal with a spoon. not saying there is nothing wrong, but mine is still good.
Yea, probably synchros. Only thing that I can think of. Have you tried changing your tranny fluid to something synthetic like Redline? That might help. Good luck though.
I had this problem too. It gradually got to where it just wouldn't go into 3rd at all. I replaced the R-154, with a different one, and all has been wekk since.
