Is this what they were calling web 2.0? or something else?

This is something else.
Web 2.0 is where internet viewers can contribute stuff to the internet, such as Youtube, or this forum, as opposed to just looking at it, like in the old days.

This Grid Internet is the optimization of the infrastructure used to transmit the data on the internet, by using dedicated fiber-optic cables and routers, rather than outdated telephone or cable lines.

ummm is no one else concerned with this comment:

Ian Bird, project leader for Cern’s high-speed computing project, said grid technology could make the internet so fast that people would stop using desktop computers to store information and entrust it all to the internet.

“It will lead to what’s known as cloud computing, where people keep all their information online and access it from anywhere,” he said.

i mean in reality, the government or well, WHOEVER with the know how, could essential take every single file off your computer in only a few minutes.....thats scary....

other than that it seems pretty damn cool.

interesting but im skeptical

The power of the grid will become apparent this summer after what scientists at Cern have termed their “red button” day - the switching-on of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the new particle accelerator built to probe the origin of the universe. The grid will be activated at the same time to capture the data it generates.

oh my

Councillor Harmann: Down here, sometimes I think about all those people still plugged into the Matrix and when I look at these machines I... I can't help thinking that in a way... we are plugged into them.

Neo: But we control these machines; they don't control us.

Councillor Harmann: Of course not. How could they? The idea is pure nonsense. But... it does make one wonder... just... what is control?

Neo: If we wanted, we could shut these machines down.....
