Now I'm a 3 Toyota owner. My 87 MKIII, my 97 4Runner, and the latest addition to the family.......

1985 Celica GT-S

5-speed
22re
factory power locks, windows
factory sunroof
IRS w/ 7.5" 3.90 rear end
14X,XXX miles

Like I needed another project, but for the price and condition, I could not resist:icon_bigg

Debating on keeping the 22re or going 22re-t, or a 7M-GTE swap.

22re's are bullet proof... well a bullet may punch a hole in it, but it will still run.

There is a video on youtube of a 22re running with like 4 holes in the block and 2 con-rods snapped... it would rev up and everything.

Nice GTS!

1985 Celi GTS cars came stock with 3.90 gears, not 4.30s. I really hope it doesn't really have 4.30s or 1st gear is probably useless.

You are CORRECT! I mis-read my axle code.

are you sure it has a 7.5"? was it swapped from a supra? I know some come wiht the rear disc brakes but didn't know they came with the 7.5". I thought all celicas came with the 6.7" diff, supras had the 7.5"

My old 83 GTS I swapped the supra subframe with a 4.10 LSD 7.5" and rear disc brakes. Fun car, always looking for another cheap one..

83 front end was ugly though, but my bro wrecked it when was driving one day (i had a 84 parts car) got $1000 for it fix it my self (swapped the 84 front) and bought my mkiii, hahah..

that thing was rough, but so much fun

as far as mods, Put a header, exhaust, filter and a small cam in it. Cams really wake up the 22res from what I hear

Awesome! I love those cars. That's what I had prior to my Supra, thus the gts in my username. I'm at work so can't see the pictures. Sold mine because I got smoked by a chick in a Corsica.:3d_frown: and I've wanted a Supra since high school (when they were new). Over on www.celica-gts.com there are some people who have already done the 7M swap and love it. It took a bit a modifying but they achieved it.
Good luck with it, I can't wait to see the pics when I get home.

1985 was THE BEST year for the Celica. HP was bumped up just a tad and it came standard with the 7.5" 3.90. Still was an open diff though, no LSD. All other 3rd gen Celicas had the 6.7" 3.42s

Eh... I think the stock 3.90s are already perfect for the car. The poor thing only has a redline of 5500 and it gets there pretty quick. I think 4.10s is pushing it, but don't take my word on it. I've only had three Celicas :)
