Reviving this old thread because I have amassed the following parts since the last post.

Ferrea Titanium Valve Train w/dual valve springs. (Having the inner/outer clearances double-checked)
Ported/Polished Head
3 Angle Valve Job
BC 272 Cams
Eagle H-Beam Rods
JE Pistons

I'm looking for a SAFE, higher than stock rpm range. I'm hoping to hear what others have successfully attained with like or similar components.

Of course, any recommendations are welcome.

Hey Kenny! Welcome back...
So, on the turbosupras.com website,Toyota was turning their 7MGTEs at 7500 RPMs, but it was for a dedicated track car. Shims under buckets, 288 cams, 100 Lbs springs, modified combustion chamber, Mahle forged, short skirt pistons, etc.
The guys who built my 7MGTE did it as a whole system based on its planned use. The bottom end has a lot of lightening and balancing to ZERO grams difference, so it spins freely w/ very little vibration from the 6M crank. All the rotating assembly (ATI damper, crank, flywheel, clutch) was turned on a Sunnen balancer to make sure it was balanced. This engine lives most of its life above 3500 RPMs and is smooth as silk all the way past redline, but I never go past 6750, as I want the 7MGTE to live more than five years. Which was all it lived the last go round. Additionally, the current engine makes little power beyond 6000RPMs, so the 750RPMs left over aren't much use...
Where are you planning on making most of your power?
What are you planning on doing with your engine?

Hey Van. I've popped in to your thread here and there, just been busy with school and work. Done with school now so, now my sights are back on to the soup...

My current setup sees full boost at around 4k rpm. That's only ~2250 rpm of full boost then it's shift time. My goal is to attain more time in boost. Some of that will come from the head work and cams; but, I want to utilize the flexibility of the AEM to increase the 'in-boost' time by raising the rev limit.

I do plan on joining you for a track session or two; but, other than that, the engine will only see higher rpm's in between shifts.

IJ was running 8k+ with ferrea dual valve springs that were cryo treated. I plan on doing almost the same thing, shimless buckets with ferrea dual valve springs cryo treated. I also want the titanium retainers to try and keep the weight down.

I had a problem getting those parts from local toyota dealer so I ended up using supertech shim under bucket setup for a 4age engine their 28 mm like the 7m I'm very happy with them only negative thing I can say is their more expensive.

Need to find a smarter/friendlier dealer.....

Shim Under as far as I know still uses a standard Bucket/Shim?

One word of caution though DO NOT CRYO the Shimless buckets... it'll end in tears..

yea I know 2 different dealers same results waited 2 months and no parts I got tired of waiting so I went with the supertech The shims are smaller slightly bigger than the valve stem.

So you add mass to the valvetrain and still run the risk of spitting a stock shim out at high rpm.... not good.

As mentioned earlier I ran my 7M to the 8300 hard cut just about every time I drove it without an issue other than the broken spring early on.

Supertech makes racing valves and springs all components that you would use for your head. The cam followers are actually lighter than stock. The shims go under the bucket in a recess for them. The shims can't come out unless something major happens with your head.

IJ: When would you say that billet main caps are necessary and what was done to your bottom end to sustain 8.3k reliably? (...and yes...I'm referring to the engine)

I don't think the billet caps are needed if it's just High Rpm you're looking at, mine was around the 550rwhp mark and never showed any signs of Block stress, I know Duane runs stock caps at 1000rwhp.

I had a 7M Crank cut down to a Cosworth counterweight profile, this dropped it slightly under the 6M crank weight and felt very smooth, JE Pistons Pauter Rods ARP Studs and quite large clearances, I also ran a 3Qt Moroso Accumulator just in case.
