Long story short, a buddy of mine sold his Supra ('87 NA automagic) for $1500 to some kids about 6-8 months ago.

He gets a notice in the mail today saying it is illegally parked at a condo, with no tag, and that it will be towed if not moved by the 15th (this coming Friday)

We're going to go take a look at the situation (ie what condition the car is in), but we're not sure what the hell he can do about it.

I know he doesn't have a copy of the bill of sale. Evidently the car is still registered to him.

Would it be legal, if the car is just sitting there, to tow it back to his place, since he is the legal owner of the car still?

This is in Florida, btw.

yeah with no bill of sale your kind of SOL. but if the kid has a bill of sale then it legaly is his car and you wouldn't have to pay the fine.

I come from a land down under
In my youth I stupidly sold a car to a friend without doing the change over of registration right away and trusting his word.....

2 arrests later I finally got it all sorted with a threat to repossess the car and have it crushed.

I don't want to know what you would do - I want to know what is legal, LOL

I've got a buddy in Marion Sheriff's Office - I'll see what he suggests.

If nothing else, I don't see the problem with Chris (my friend) just going to the DMV and filing for a duplicate title. If the kids he sold it to haven't registered it in 8 freaking months, I don't think they are going to!

Besides, that car had a slew of problems, including the beginnings of rod knock. Very possible they just left it and said screw it.
