Flywheel help

Would there for any reason be a shim/washer between the flywheel and the crankshaft? Or between the flywheel and the bolts that hold the flywheel on?
Im swapping flywheel onto an engine originally equipted with a flexplate for an auto and the guy I got the flywheel from gave me what appears to be a shim or washer but I cant for the life of me understand why they would use this.

You don't use that shim if you're mating the motor to a manual transmission. The shim is for automatics only.

Thats what I thought, but the person i picked the flywheel up from was convinced it was with the manual trans.

yup I just installed a fidanza flywheel this past weekend and there is no shim.
