I got my FFIM today (thanks vansupra) Its a sethron longrunner exactly like this one here with the same throttlebody.

p1459856_1.jpg

A few things that puzzle me are:

There are 2 coolant (i think) hoses that go to the old throttle body and isc, since i no longer have either, what do i do with them? would it be safe to just route them to eachother? probably not

The ISC and CAI, how would I bypass them?

the EGR, how would I block this off and keep this from giving me a CEL?

If anyone is running this FFIM, please post pics or info of your setup.. thanks

just bypass the coolant that was suppose to flow through isc to tb. For egr you can buy a resistor from radio shack and plug it into the harness so it doesnt give you a check engine light.

I dont remember what resistor it is though. Id have to look if you need to.

ok i just checked out the tsrm, like i said before about connecting the hoses together, that'll bypass the 2 hoses, easy fix, thanks man.

Next would be the Cold start injector, I am guessing I could just get a bolt and block it off

FFIM is turning out alot easier then I anticipated... well until I get to the intercooler, piping and battery relocation lol.

I will mess with the EGR after I clean up around the engine bay.

Being in CA aren't you gonna have some issues with removing the egr? Also are you going standalone? They make block off plates for the head for the EGR goes behind the plate on the back. As for CSI yea just block it off. 12mm X 1.25 is the tread size on the rail to block off the CSI.

I will have issues smogging without the EGR, but not if I go to the right place with the right money.

I wont be going standalone yet, I dont know if this is correct but wont it just be harder to start and take longer to warm up with out the ISC and CSI?

I am going to take the FFIM to Ramsin engineering (good people) to get flanged but when I have more money

I will get it blocked off tomorrow and order the egr block off from arizona performance or check if 935 still sells them

smog test + FFIM on MKIII = automatic FAIL. Unless you plan on swapping it out every time you have to smog your car. Even if you some how "pass" it by finding some place to cheat for you, what happens when you get pulled over and the cop asks you to open the hood?

As for the resistor, if your going to go ahead and try and use the FFIM, is 1/2 watt, 1.5k- Ohm resistor (brown, green, red, gold) needed to "trick" the ECU thinking the temp sensor is still there. I have been using it for a couple years now with no problems.

Hey Should have just PMed me could have answered your questions in a matter of minutes. Anyways with stock ECU and no ISC you will have to crack the TB a bit with the throttle plate stop to allow proper idle as well set it to 900-1000rpm to prevent stalling. The problem with people reselling my manifolds is that they were designed for someones specific setup so if you were to order a new one you would get the proper accessories. I even still run the ISC with my AEM!

Anyways shoot me a PM with any further questions you have!

HTH,
Seth

92nsx: i understand California emission laws, ive lived here my whole life... instead of attacking me over a simple ffim, attack the other 3/4's of the socal community with 1jz swaps, Im like the only one in socal still building a 7M... If I get pulled over and sent to ref, sucks for me.

Thanks for the info on the resistor btw!!!

Seth: so all I have to do is crack the TB, another easy fix lol... I will definitely shoot you a PM if I have anymore trouble. Thanks alot.

No attack was implied ;) Just FYI, If you already knew it, then it was just extra information for any one else reading it & thinking about a FFIM in California. Many members do not know how to use the search function on this web site.
(hint: That is how I found the information about what resistor is needed to "trick" the TCCS) :madfawk:

You asked for help to break CA law, and you didn't expect the comments you got...get real. Just because "everyone else is doing it" doest not make it ok and it's damn sure not a justification in the eyes of the law. It's guys like you and the rest of the 1JZ swap crowd that gives the socialist CA government all the reason they need to make up more fascist emission laws. It's not just you...it affects everyone. Not to mention you pump more of the most noxious byproducts there is into the atmosphere...not my problem I guess, I don't live there and don't have to breathe it. It would be funny as hell if you get caught and they take your car and crush it...I suppose you would whine about it too ::hah::

Before you go off and try to make what I said as another "attack" keep something in mind. YOU are the one wanting to break CA law...if you don't like it, move to another state.

If you are using a stock CA ECU, you have a bit of a problem. The motor is tuned for that ECU with the EGR installed...with the EGR gone, more air is introduced into the cylinders in the EGR ops range. Creates a lean condition under load at mid throttle...superb way to induce a BHG. That big TB you have will make it much worse. A standalone EMS is your best option to handle this issue and properly control that set-up.

BTW, you have to use a resistor with the correct value for it to work. Measure the resistance of a working EGR temp sensor (at ops temp) to determine the correct value.

Thanks for your input. Ill be sure to keep this in mind when Im driving through San Diego with my FFIM. BTW, Im pretty sure they dont "crush" cars for modifying them.

That is good info there. I understand the strict laws about modding a car in california, i also understand the strict emission laws in california. I understand the consequences of breaking the laws in california. I do not wish to start an arguement on this subject because i am fully aware that what i am doing is wrong. So no point in me trying to cover that up. thanks again for the info and heads up.

No argument - just pointing it out so when it happens to ya it's no surprise ;)

It's really not that hard to have an EGR installed on a FFIM - For example, here's mine:

FFIM 02.jpg

Seth made this one too, so I know it can be done. BTW, you want an ISCV to control idle...you can get away without a CSI where you live though.
