This is gonna sound drastic but believe me once you do it you will see that it is the way to go. Take out the driveshaft, unbolt the transmission cross member and drop down the back of the motor and trans together. Then you can use a bunch of extensions to get to the starter bolts. Trying to get the starter bolts out by just reaching up in there is a nightmare.

I was able to come from behind the tranny without unbolting anything. You'll need about 3' of extensions, a wobble connector and a universal. Experiment with the arrangement of ends and extensions, use a flashlight to get a sense of where you're going and keep trying until you connect the socket to the bolt. First time really sucks, but it gets easier once you get an idea of where things are it isn't that bad.

Depends on if it bolts into the bell housing or it it has bolts with nuts.
