Dual Piston Previa Caliper

There is a thread on SF about stock dual piston caliper on a MK3. I know that the Previa runs The same Rotor & pads as Our Supras so I thought I would look that up. This is what I found. Its for a 91 Previa with ABS & 4 wheel Dis Breaks. What do you think. Direct bolt on deal using the same pads we do now. Would 2 smaller pistons be better the 1 large one?

I think the two is better, more clamping area.

I lock the front brakes with the stockers up front and TRD pads. I think the brakes would be an good upgrade, especially if you have to change brake pads anyway.

The calipers were made to stop a heavy van loaded with passengers, AND it's newer. I think it's better than what we have.

no it takes the same pads!!!

the only advantage you will get from these calipers over a reco single piston caliper is slightly more even pad wear, maybe a .0002% increase in stoping power that will probably be needed to pull up the mass of the heavyer caliper!

if you for some reason need new calipers fine otherwise the money would be better saved and invested in a brake upgrade that includes a decent rotor!

I think Allan has a point there. If you're already locking up the brakes then the calipers are already outpowering the pads. You'd actually need a bigger padsurface to stop locking up. Which will then result in more usable stopping power.

It doesn't really matter if you'd put 16 pistons on a caliper... as long as the pad surface remains the same... you're just going to need more fluid and have more travel in the pedal perhaps

I _might_ look into it... seeing that i'm not at all pleased with the way my supie brakes at this time... might have to bleed it a few more times though. It's like allan said, if your current calipers are up for replacement then it'd be interesting.

as already stated, it still doesn't address the fundamental problems of the MKIII braking system...

I was thinking the same thing...what is the diameter of the piston on the Previa caliper?

Dr J - could you elaborate please? I am thinking of a big brake kit...wondering if I missed something here.

I see that, However with a combination of upgraded rotors, Pads, new brake lines & fresh Valv. Syn fluid That has already been done. I would assume it could make an improvement to replace worn/bad calipers with these rather then stock replacements.

From my reaserch I found they came W/O ABS Front Disc, Rear Drum. But the Front Caliper is single piston like ours, Same part #. The Dual Piston setup was for ABS Vans only.

Previa piston bore size = 1.75" x 2

Someone do the math.......
