im asking this because, my cousin was a test tube baby and he was pretty malnourished; he was always skinny and had to be put on steroids which didnt help much he passed last year at 11, rest in peace. this has bugged me for quite sometime, ive been thinking because he was a testtube baby it was bound to happen, or could have been the cause to his problem. but if he happend to be conceived naturally would things be any different.

Excactly how much was "test tube" gender or much more such as getting into the DNA and altering eye color, hair, size, and that type of stuff. It could have to do with it and when you say malnourished do you mean he would not eat often or born with a disease causing malnourishment? Many things could have been a factor.

he was a test tube baby because my aunt could not conceive naturally. and he ate, but he just didnt gain weight he was always skinny. well i was thinking about the condition he got because my uncle and i were talking about how man made things dont live/live very long, but natural things live long.

Was he completely manmade:confused: Didn't know it was possible... I'm guessing that he was just concieved outside of the womb and I don't think that is considered manmade.

I don't have any answers for you noob, but I hope you do find some. I personally wouldn't think that it would have anything to do with troubles later on in life, but I'm not a doctor. I would lean more towards coincidence. Hate to hear that he passed away at such an early age. I know it's cliche, but life just isn't fair..................lol

I am no doc, but I did search a bit and I would guess no at this point. There may always be some exceptions though.

Louise Joy Brown (born July 25, 1978, in England) was the world's first baby to be conceived by in vitro fertilisation, or IVF. She is currently a postal worker and was previously a nurse at a childcare centre in Bristol.

I assume she is in good health if she is working.

I know, I still have work to do.:biglaugh:

Edit: Here is a fair page in my opinion on the subject. There is some controversy as with just about everything to do with life.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Test_tube_baby

The issue of birth defects remains a controversial topic in IVF. A majority of studies do not show a significant increase after use of IVF. Some studies suggest higher rates for ICSI , while others do not support this finding.[4] Major birth defect include chromosomal abnormalities, genetic imprinting defects, and multiple organ abnormalities. Hansen et al conducted a systematic review of published studies (including ICSI) and found a 30-40% increase risk of birth defects associated with assisted reproductive technology when compared to children born after spontaneous conception. Possible explanations offered were the underlying cause of the infertility, factors associated with IVF/ICSI, culture conditions, and medications, however, the actual cause is not known.

yeah, joel is right, the term "test tube baby" really refers to IVF, and its done every day in the world. I dont believe the statistic show that IVF leads to any higher mortallity rate or birth defects.

Sadly in your brothers case, its just one of those things that cant really be explained. Many children are born with defects or diseases every year. About the only thing that can be said is...it happens...generally there isnt much that can be done about it.

There are however many many studies that show that mothers who dont smoke, drink, avoid certain drugs and eat healthy and excersise, generally have healthy babies.

I wish I or anyone else could answer your question..but Im afraid its actually more of a spiritual question than a medical one...and thats something you will need to find on your own.

that would be gene manipulation, and it isnt easy. Its also not so clear right now.
It wont happen because of the bible beaters, and people like me who arent bible beaters but beleive that you start messin with that type of shit and your creating a world of dangerous outcomes. AKA super soldiers, world violence.
Think of the bad before the good.
If the good outways the bad, then go for it.
otherwise leave it alone.

MKIII N00b, Like joel said, the number for IVF is so great and has been proven time and time again as a great alternative if the mother cant conceive naturally.

GL with your searching man, but try not to feel science is to blame.
These things happen, even naturally.
I dont do the pray thing, but my condolences, for what ever they are worth.

yup thats what mean, kind of...its kind of like playing god, making a baby because the mother cannot conceive...im not religious but, if the mother cant conceive that means that god thinks that she shouldnt have a kid...you know what i mean?

Not nessarily. god didnt write the rules, man did.
Religion is man made, thus it is flawed.
most religions dont care about sariget mothers, IVF is essicially the same, its natural, Just not concieved in the mothers womb.

Because if you wanna get technical. taken drugs to help you get over a virus or cold or hell surgery. then its not natural either. you shoulda died.
