so my rear end whines, clunks, howls and is just one noisy bugger. I want to rebuild it but i know squat about differentials. I'm pretty sure i have the 3.9 gears (87 turbo, 5sp) and i want to know what parts i should source out and buy. I'm also going to decide whether to go with a 1piece driveshaft or just bite the bullet and buy the insanly priced carrier bearing from Toyota.

My goal is to have a quiet smooth and reliable rear end. Just like it can from the factory. Only reason why i don't want a 1piece shaft is the fact that i read that they can be noisy and vibrations can be felt a bit more.

So can anyone help as to which parts i should get as a typical rebuild and how much it would cost??

It isn't actually hard, but you should not attempt it on your own. If you just replace all the parts, it will whine like a siren if you fail to set pinion depth and backlash to specs.

hehe yea i'm not going to rebuild it myself. I'll source out the parts and get a shop to dimantle it and put it together with all the parts needed to make it like new again.....
