I figure, the motor was just rebuilt and the rest of the cooling system was empty, so if I'm going to change to a different coolant, now is the time to do so. It says an Ethylene Glycol coolant in the owners manual, but I've heard of some people running Toyota Red. Is that the best route to go for Mk3's? Or is the stuff I got at Advance fine. Thanks for your help.

Straight off the bottle:

"Genuine TOYOTA Pre-mixed Anti-rust Anti-freeze / Super Long Life Coolant is a new generation ethylene glycol-based premium engine coolant, offering excellent corrosion protection formulated specifically for all TOYOTA warranty requirements. For vehicles fitted with Super Long Life Coolant at the plant, it is highly recommended that Super Long Life Coolant be used for maintenance."

Note the "new generation ethylene glycol-based". So if your question was are they one in the same, yes.

That wasn't exactly my question, but it helps. Thank you.

Any general coolant will work, and lots would argue that it's a personal preference. HOWEVER...using cheap or poor quality coolant usually leads to hoses rotting and rust buildup, seized water pumps, etc. When you think about that and see that Toyota has recommended a specific type of coolant I just ask myself is it even worth the possible headache of all those things when I could spend a couple extra bucks on what Toyota would put in their own cars from the factory? I've never heard anyone complain running the Toyota stuff, so that's what I run and hey, I have no complaints :). That's about all I can say.

^^^ You definitely want to do that. Toyota Red is good...however, Zyrex G05 is the best IMO. Mix either 50/50 with distilled water.
I would stay away from the usual green stuff (i.e. what you likely got at Advance Auto)

Make sure you run a stock temp (190 deg F) thermostat...either OEM or a Stant SuperStat.
