umm no what?

no you dont put any sealant or anything on ANY new MHG such as cometic of HKS...they already come with a sealant coating on them.... if yours was leaking you did something wrong somewhere along the way. did you take out the rivets?

Agreed. You don't spray a NEW cometic with anything. So.. you did something wrong!

what?? really. Could it be a rivet? would it crush enough with a rivet to have just an oil passage leak? This was a reputable machine shop. They put the head on the block. He told me after that he researched cometic gaskets and said that they need a spray to seal properly. is he lying? what else could have gone wrong? The gasket was the "Titan" gasket. which is a cometic correct?

For insurance, I would use NEW parts along with new studs.

He didn't do his research then :icon_conf . This machine shop isn't so reputable anymore I guess. The head would not have crushed the rivet enough, no.

I was lucky and got a Cometic with all the rivets overhanging the mating surfaces, so none had to be removed, you on the other hand may not have been so lucky.

What did we learn? Do it yourself :icon_razz

no sealant is used PERIOD. and if he didnt remove the rivet or two that is common on cometic brand mhg then that is definitley the problem. IMO if thats the case you should make him pay for the fix.

great thanks. im rebuilding in the fall. Only other worry on my mind is how brittle the wiring harness is. It was cracking and falling apart last time. I hope it can take another rebuild.
