Code 43 - starter signal

I'm not sure why I'm getting this code, but I was wondering if it might be a part of my problem of being hard to start when cold.

Does the ECU give the engine more fuel or fire up the cold start injector when starting? How important is this signal?

Can I simply run a wire from the ignition start switch directly to the ECU? Does it just need a 12v signal?

I can start the car without pushing in the clutch, and I checked the bottom clutch switch and it is connected and works fine, so I'm not sure about that part of the circuit.

You're getting the code because ECU input STA is not going high when the key is held to start and yes, it will cause cold start issues.

It's important. You'd be surprised to learn what the TCCS does with that signal. For example it fires all 6 injectors at once during a start. STA is also used to power the cold start injector.

You could but since that's what the stock wiring does why not fix it?

I tested it, and my bottom clutch switch works fine, and the wires appear OK. Any idea why the car still starts without pressing the clutch? It never used to be able to do that.
