i just checked my codes cuz the car was running funny, well it turns out the speed sensor is acting up (42) and its also giving a 25 which in the handbook it says air fuel ratio lean malfunction. but it also says in cali. models only. what can i do to fix these? does the speed sensor affect performance? please help.

i have a 1ggte how do i go about measuring the sensor? so can i just buy another speed sensor?
also i am running with no exhaust stright off the bottom of the turbos. every since i did this my a/f gauge goes all to hell it reads extremely lean under heavy throttle. could this be causing this?

Eck, I keep forgetting you don't have a 7M. Shouldn't matter though, the codes mean the same. Test the speed sensor and if it's bad replace it. It's just a reed switch and a magnet unless you have a digital dash, then it's optical.

How close is the O2 sensor to the exhaust outlet? To the outside air? It it's close you'll have all kinds of problems because the exhaust stream will be diluted. Then again you shouldn't be in closed loop under heavy throttle

i would say its about 3 inches to the outlet.
how do i test the speed sensor? i've never done that.
i have a regular dash.

JJ: You can get a V reading from the speed sensor as well, it was something odd like 1.4>1.7>2.3>4 from memory when I was installing the AVC-R. (pink wire grey flashes)

Well sure, you can check it power on too. The odd readings are because of the pull up resistors in the ECU. It's how the box monitors it, how it knows to set a code. Either that or the meter can't follow the frequency when the car is moving too fast.

I just figured continutity would be easier for him to understand. It's a bloody switch ;). I'm pretty sure you can use the CC diags to test it though.

LOL you sure it's from the ECU??
(Only asking cos my stock ECU is in the bin along with most of it's wiring and the AVC-R would be happier with 4 x constant V signals)

ok ok im lost... explain in redneck terms how the hell you do that. i dont really understand all the technical stuff. sorry im just kinda confused.
so then i need to put the exhaust back on the car then right?

Ian, exactly what do you mean by 4x? One for every 4 or 4 for every one?

Godspeed: Yeah, you need to put the exhaust back on. Sorry, I only deal with unhacked cars. From what I see there aren't many of them left these days ;)

JJ: The AVC-R looks for 4 x on/off and I'm assuming it wants a consistant voltage ie: 5v 5v 5v 5v per rotation of the shaft instead of what the Sensor is putting out now.

With the current 4 x distinct voltages it seems to get confused and the Speed Display fluctuates and this in turn makes the Gear Sensing inaccurate.

I considered using the Hall sensor on the Tremec but it's a 12 tooth shutter and the AVC-R doesn't have a native setting for that.

So you want 4 pulses per rev with a max of 5 volts? 4 PPR on the speedo drive?

I don't understand why your stock sensor would be outputing different voltages. It's nothing more than a contact closure. Without the stock ECU how are you powering it now? All you'd need to do is pull it up to 5vdc through a resistor to get the signal you want. I'll have to check what the stock PPR is though. I'm pretty sure it's more than four.

so then you cant tell me how to test the sensor??
as far as hacked cars i had nothing to do with it i just got it like this.
