Ok, I just put the "yay!" in the title to get you guys in here.

I have a question about the stock turbo clutch. I've seen that the stock NA disc is 9 1/4in. diameter, but what about the turbo unit? I've seen replacements listed with 9 1/4in, 9 5/16in, 9 7/8in, and even 9 1/2in diameter. I'd just like to know what size the disc should be for the 7MGTE. The crap clutch I have in my car right now(I suspect) may be a 9 1/4in unit, and am wondering if small diameter(and contact area) differences would account for differences in grip and longevity- all other things being equal(pressure plate rating, thicknesses and materials).

Thanks, experts.

I don't know. I have had no need to measure clutches when I changed them.

It dooesn't do any good to have a disc bigger than the pressure plate, or flywheel. If it event fits over the dowl pins. As for theory, you have more surface area but didn't increase the clamping force. That will lower the pressure per square inch.

Granted- there's no point in having a disc bigger than the surface area of the flywheel/ pressure plate.
I guess I'm just worried that my disc face might be slightly smaller than those surfaces, and I'm losing grip.
Granted, less contact area means more pressure per square inch, but I would imagine the farther out from center(as possible) you get grip, the stronger it would be.

Say-
If anyone out there has a flywheel off their car, maybe you could measure the contact surface diameter?
That would be awesome!
