I have read on here that the stock clutches kinda suck for build purposes. I did a quick search and saw nothing in the results dating back over a months, so...

I'm looking for a recommendation for the best clutch/flywheel setup for a streetable 450 HP build. I saw some ACT clutch kits at Summit, but I know there are more options. What do you guys and gals recommend?

I decided to go stock for break in.

But ACT HD Disc + Full Face street disc or stock disc seems to be a good combo.

There's also a few southbend options.

So what flywheel would you recommend with that?

The Action Clutch that Driftmotion sells is supposed to be good for 500 or more. The price is better than anything else you are going to find for that power level too. I hope to be putting mine on the road in the next couple of days, so I can tell you first hand. There should be quite a few success stories around here on it.

An aluminum flywheel will reduce your rotational mass, and thus improve your throttle response. But, it will also increase your chances of welding your clutch to the flywheel if you drag race much. Many have used them with loads of success, but the weld stories almost always include an aluminum wheel. It's personal preference.

Thanks for the info on the aluminium flywheel. I just weld my act 6 puck ceramic disc to my fidanza flywheel. How about chromemoly flywheel or other lightweight flywheel. I hope I didn't throw my stock flywheel. Do anybody know what cause the welding?

It's apparently heat of course, but the newer flywheels seem to be coming with slight grooves in them that are the specifically to prevent the "welding" issues. Or so they have told me. I am giving one a try here soon and I'll let you know for sure if it welds itself to the friction disk. Sure hope not. LOL

I really liked my Spec stage 3 6-pucks. I really dont like my ACT extreme duty 6-puck. Spec=great product!!! ACT has welding problems.

Can the welding problem be avoided using stock flywheel. How about other material other than ceramic. I used spec stage 2 kevlar last year and it burned to crisp. Ceramic weld to flywheel this year. This stuff is getting expensive. Fletch do you drag race alot?
