Cleaning corrosion/dirt/grime

Hey all, Whats the best method for cleaning up the intake manifold to look brand new? It has some corrosion, dirt etc on it..

Edit: i will have the intake manifold off the car...

Just take it to some shop to have it powder coated/polished and they'll do everything including cleaning it up.

Get a brush...like the kind used on BBQ's...i'm not joking, it makes it look new with minimal effort, it almost looks polished afterward.

wire wheel? bead blasting? dremel? there's lots of ways to do it. i suppose it all depends on how much patience you have.

I used a wire brush- it tokk a while but it looks poilished...

I dont think anything is going to come close to bead/sand blasting.

I have a parts washer with tons of wire brushes and it's not as good as a good blast lol!

I have been cleaning up the entire engine with a combination of dremels (with small rasps and other attachments), and a drill with a couple of different wire brush heads, and a few brushes (including used electric toothbrushes- which actually work quite well for cleanup....) Also I have used some light wet/dry sandpaper and a lot of old t-shirts =)

But - i take my time and am pretty thorough/focused - it helps with me ADHDish brain to have something to sit and focus on for long periods...and its pretty gratifying to look at once you have redone the whole damn engine "by hand"

Still, I had the exhaust mani, turbo elbow, and something else sandblasted as well....cause of the materials and condition...

Kinda just depends on if ya like to do the work or if ya want it done now!

I use greased lightning orange blast and a scotch brite pad (green). To clean most of my engine parts that are dirty.
