SO I've been making some serious progress on my 1jz vvti, disabled the traction control (ETCS) stuff, and got it running pretty nicely but it stil kinda chokes out when I initially start any rev, it picks up right away and then does beautiful unless i let it rev down.. Really excited about this whole thing but my first drive today made this much more apparent...

have you looked into your idle speed controller or the dashpot at all? do you have an aftermarket BOV vented to atmosphere?

I have the same swap, have you checked the intercooler piping and vacuum lines? Stumbling coming off idle usually has to do with a lean condition. Also how are you running the stock BOV?

hey man, just seen your reply to my post but I didnt check for a while because I took the first test drive and my tranny was toast, but I'm rebuilding it now and wanted to see if you could help me, you ask about my BOV, and I just have the stock one that's connected to the manifold, I notice my fuel rail squeaks when I reconnect my battery. I still had the hesitation after securing my TRAC butterfly open, which helped alot because I have the dual throttle bodies, but I'm gonna start retuning next week and I'll se whats up.

Thanks, Jeremy

Does your fuel rail squeak at any other time? If it does, it could mean that there is a restriction in the fuel rail, and the pump may be kicking on momentarily. As far as hesitation, check the fuel pressure first and foremost, then watch the fuel pressure when the hesitation happens. Other than that, I would watch the O2 sensor when the hesitation occurs and see if it stays lean or if it goes rich. Also, have you tried unplugging the TRAC throttle blade position sensor and retest? Is it an auto?

posting this from a PM for everyone, just didnt get on for a couple weeks

and to answer you tye I only notice the fuel rail noise when I reconnect my battery's ground, but Im gonna take it off tonight hopefully and take a look. One thing I should also mention is I currently have no dash/gauges although I do have a full set of aftemrmarket gauges to install I just havent yet. I'm in the process of doing all this simultaneously and currently I'm starting my tranny rebuild which is going to hold all this up momentarily. I do have the TRAC plugs removed, and the TRAC TB permanently in the open position (but still in there), and my engine has an auto ECU although I am running the R154.

SO I'm pulling out my transmission tonight, going tto rebuild in this week, and then I'll be diving into finishing the engine, so for now any help is appreciated, and I'll be sure to keep you guys posted, thanks in advance

Well, if the dash is all disassembled, then there may be something that could be back feeding voltage back to the pump, and it kicks the pump on for a split second. As for the hesitation, are you using an auto or manual trans harness? Because there are a few pin location differences between the two, and if there is a harness problem or there is corrosion somewhere, that could be sending a false signal back to the ECM. Do you know if the Check Engine Light is illuminated or any DTCs present? On a side note, please let me know how the trans rebuild goes and how much it set you back, mine has 215k on it and needs some freshening up.

Um to be honest I had some problems with the wiring, but I got it into a reputable shop here that does 90% 2jz swaps, so they finished my wiring after I ran into problems, I'll double check the wiring but I'm pretty sure it's good, they did a complete custom wire job. I also think they did the fuel pump bypass so its constantly on when my key is on. idk if that yields negative results but it seems to do fine .

and about the rebuild I used to work for a mechanic in town who is luckily enough a tranny specialist. I'm just probably gonna shoot him like 5 bills for he time he spends, plus whats looking like 350-400 in parts. I'm just getting the toyota bearings/syncros and then getting the marlin crawler thrust washer, shift fork, ect...

I might get lucky and get the labor free though, and just trade him some tattoo work, or do some of the work hes got piling up at his shop, he said hes got a 351w with some blown heads and I might just do the porting for him while he does my transmission

oh and I should mention the dash isnt disassembled, I completely lack a dash at this point. I got my shell for 500 and it the 7m still ran, needless to say it was priced 500 for a reason XD the interior is a complete disaster but it's lookin gorgeous compared to day 1, I'll start a thread in the builds section soon to give you an idea and pics, I'll start it now but until I get home I dont have any super helpful pics
