ok, so yesterday, this old guy comes in to my work and puts his keys on the counter and told me that he didnt want his truck anymore. he signed me off the registration (canadian form of transfer of ownership) and called a cab to get on a bus.

i have the truck now, its an 83 dodge ram w/ 318 and a 5 speed, in good condition. it has a camper on the back, but im gonna try and get rid of it.

my question is, what can i do? how can i get a title? any canadians out there who know the process?

go down to your insurance broker and ask them what to do. They would have a good idea. Did he sign the truck over to you atleast??

ya +1 on the dead bodies, make sure its not stolen, used in any crimes, etc before you try and use the thing.

It is a little weird? Did he tell you why he decided to pick you?? I know we are not really answering your question but you have to admit that its a bit weird.. Did you look for hidden guns and drugs under the seat?

On topic answer : Sounds like if you have the title signed over to you. Just go where you would normally go when you buy a used car. They will know what to do to get it re-done in your name. Or at least call and ask, so if its some crazy amount of money you know before you get there. :) Good luck.

If the registration was signed off to you, it's yours. Just have to take the signed registration into you vehicle registry and register it under your name.

When I worked at AutoZone years ago an old woman came in and asked if anyone wanted her 90 something Buick. Had a busted PS pump, but I think that was it. She signed it over to a girl that worked there and left. Pretty cool, just have to be in the right place at the right time I guess.

yeah... the guy had parked it there the night before (because it "shut off on him") the camper was clean, a few expensive hats inside and lots of free vegas porn but thats about it. the vin checked out good, and the registration and insurance is valid until october 2008.

today, i found out what the "shutting off" was all about. after driving the truck for like 10 mintues, both front calipers locked up, and upon letting the clutch out to try and take off, the motor dies. so $150 for new brakes and im good :)

thanks for the help

uhh....crack hidden somewhere? I was just thinking about this actually...what i might do if I received a car with loads of crack or another expensive drug in the panels or tires.....

Odd...but i could see some dude having a bad day and bad luck with the thing just giving up.... pics? not that anxious to see it but somehow that would make me feel like this was more worthwhile.
