curious if anyone knew what this is, and what it is used for.

location: coming off the alternator harness, bolted to the wheel well, under the fuse box next to the fan and magnetic clutch relays.

suppressor to reduce alt whine/noise on the radio/speakers?

Kills noise in the entire electrical system. By default it cleans up the supply voltage to the radio to help reduce the alternator whine.

On that particular one no it's a 2 wire.
