(I'm referring to the ones used with Cold Air Intakes that are supposed to stop hydrolock)

I dont see how it could "hurt" performance, but i would put it in front of the maf due to the fact if you ever do "hydrolock" the lower filter, then the bypass will actually work... but you plan on taking the car mudding or what?

Ahhh, like the AEM ones? I was wondering what you were talking about....

Looks like a straight through design, so I'd think it wouldn't effect performance at all. I remember reading a tech. article in SCC, or Turbo Mag. a few years ago when these came out. They tested it with a NSX(?) with a air filter submerged in a fish tank. Looked like it worked pretty well, iirc. I think if you're worried about not getting enough air through one when it needs to work, you could put 2 or more in.

It floods a lot on the way to my school when it rains, etc.

Yeah, I wondering why no one responded until I talked to someone on AIM about this and he pointed out why the topic name was weird :p

Ah. If I was concerned that there was a good possibility of running through water high enough to submerge my air filter, I'd run a short ram, and keep the filter up in the engine compartment.
You know, there is just (and I mean JUST) enough room inside the back of the fender to put a small cone filter in there, or maybe one of those longer oval K&N's. It would require some cutting and fabing(I think you'd have to move one fender bracket in there), but it would make a nice place to run a short cold air intake system. You'd have to vent the fender to get enough air, though.
