I would not pay $3000 for a car with an admitted motor problem. If $3000 is within your price range, there are nicer MKIII's to be had for the same money.

If this is what he wants to trade for:

" am open to possible trades for possibly any integras, civics, or 240's preferibly 5 speed "

You know the thing is in sad shape. :momaru:

^^ Nah... Seems to high. $3000 should be able to get you a good condition stock turbo supra so I wouldn't waste my time with that NA. Although is does have low milage it's still to high IMO(although I may be just a cheap guy). If it was turbo then hell yea it would be worth it.

Keep looking.

yeah thats the same one, he lowered the price by 500

Go offer him $2000 for it and if you can settle on a price between $2000 & $2500 then I think this car is likely worth it.

With a resource like SM, even if it has a BHG or a bad valve you should be able to fix it relatively inexpensively.

99 times out of 100, on our cars it's the beginning of a blown head gasket. Other problems could be a chipped valve, bent valve, broken or worn valve spring, damaged valve guide or valve seat, damaged piston ring, cylinder wall damage, etc.

Price to fix it could vary anywhere from a couple of hundred dollars to considerably more. For example, if you've got a bent valve, the only thing that might make sense is to rebuild the head, or swap it for a known good used head with another member who's getting a head built for performance.

If all of this sounds like more than you are willing to deal with, you might want to rethink your choice of a 16 to 22 year old sports car. Admittedly, the Supra was Toyota's absolute flagship car at the time. It's built better than almost everything out there. But these cars are old, and sometimes need a considerable amount of TLC to be 100%.

so if this is the beginning of a bhg , then it would make more sense to just do the whole hg job , from what i learned a decent hg job can cost around 700-900 dollars , is this correct?
oh and what if its cylinder wall damage , what then , engine swap ?

EDIT: oh and can a bad piston/s cause compression problems whatever may be wrong with them

Nope.

If you do it yourself it won't cost much. If you need someone who knows mk3's give me a PM and i'll go out and check it out with you.
