blower fan problems, maybe the resistor?

This is an 87 na. When i push the different settings for fan speed, it pretty much has no correlation to the button i push, what the blower does. Would this be resistor? If so, where is the resistor and anyone got a part number for buying a new.

If its not, what could it be?

The part you are talking about is by the fan motor and is on the heater/cooling box on the passinger side. It has one screw and has one plug(5 wires iirc). Also it is not that expensive from toyota. like $20something iirc.

If some of the fan speeds just don't seem to activate the fan, then you are right on the money with the resistor.

If the fan speeds activate the wrong settings, then you're barking up the wrong tree. :)

If the fan doesn't blow then you may need to replace the actual motor. I had that problem in my 89. I did replace the resistor pack and that didn't fix anything so I dug in a bit deeper and found my motor was gunked up. A quick replacement later and I had air circulating again.

Are you saying the fan speed has nothing to do with the button you push? as in, press #3 and it goes on low, #2 is high and so on?

You may want to try another control head.
