question: the derections that came witht the arp studs say to torque them down to 90lbs, but the specs are for a 7mgte. is that also the right specs for an 7mge?

Don't forget you MUST use a bottoming tap to tap all the headbolt holes out when you use studs. The stock holes are gunked up and do no thread all the way to the very bottom, so the studs will sit too high if you don't.
Did you remember to do this? The studs should screw all the way down into the block if done properly

I used a 12x1.25mm tap. I thought it didnt look right either so i screwed a stock head bolt in all the way and marked it with sharpee. then did the same with the arp stud. the depth that the bolt and stud threads reached were the same. the thread count on the arp studs is greater so i figured thats y it stuck out some. did i do something wrong? end result is like the pics shown.

just to be strait 90lbs is okay to torque the stud to? doing it later tonight. had to buy a 12point 14mm socket..

Your engine bay looks nice and clean. Can we see the rest of the car?

When the gasket blew, did the oil and coolant mix?

got the cams on and torqued the bearing caps to 14lbs. got the timing belt on just one problem…. pin on the exhuast side that holds the cam pully in place is missing.. lame! so i have to wait and see if the machine shop that i gave the head and cams to has it or a replacement.

Make sure you rotate the motor by hand a couple of revs and check all your marks again, lot of people forget that step.

okay i wont forget. ill do it the second i get that damn cam pin...

Nice Thread. I'm a supporter of pics ;] I've been here, done that. Did you buy new exhaust studs or are you going to reuse the old ones? 99% of the time, the exhuast nut is siezed on the stud, pull whole thing out. A lot of people tend to use the old ones and over tighten them, Causing the hole to be striped, or when they reheat/cooldown after rebuild they tend to back out/ fallout, stud and all. If you use the old ones(OR new ones), i've found using a super high temp thread locker and tightening them down snug. Then let them sit for a night. When you start the car for the first time after rebuild, it will smell slightly, then thats it. I'd recomend it, just so you don't have an exhaust leak right at the head, which having the leak would pretty much going angainst all the head work you have done already.
