you NEED to clean all that stuck HG residue off the block or it WILL blow again, i used a gasket scraper, they do exist in a normal automotive section, after you think your done scraping get a straightedge and see if the surface is level and smooth from gasket material. then get permatex copper gasket spray, coat the gasket with that, those pistons look amazing still. crank pulley is fine still, nice choice of radiator hose,

what brand radiator is that?

Don't coat a head gasket that has a surface finish on it, that Toyota gasket looks like it has one. Get the head lightly skimmed, don't skimp on it.
I've used a product called gasket stripper in the past for head gaskets, works very well, but smells and seems just like regular paint stripper to me, so maybe try some of that on the block. It's amazing what the stripper will bring out of the block, even when you think it's really clean.
I personally like to run a new head gasket with no coolant in the engine at idle for about a minute (just till the head starts to warm up around the plugs/exhaust) after I'm done and let it sit overnight after that. I have no evidence, but I believe it allows the head gasket to work it's way into the metal surfaces better, but that's just me.

I also strongly advise a chemical stripper as well, the metal surface MUST be absolutely clean for the gasket to bond properly to the surfaces.

so i shouldnt coat the toyota head gasket?

Looking good man. I have never had a problem using an OEM gasket with no spray. They appear to have some sort of coating on them, so I would avoid using copper spray personally. I have removed heads off of an engine that had an OEM gasket with copper spray, and the gasket didn't adhere to the surfaces at all, I pulled the whole gasket off in one piece, no scraping or anything, so that kind of worried me. The gasket had bonded to all other engines I had pulled apart that used an OEM gasket.

Don't forget you MUST use a bottoming tap to tap all the headbolt holes out when you use studs. The stock holes are gunked up and do no thread all the way to the very bottom, so the studs will sit too high if you don't.

Not sure home much oem hg is at driftmotion but the oem stock replacment from toyota was 110$...explensive for an effing gasket but well worth the peace of mind i get from getting a quality stock replacement.
