Passport or V1. I like the V1 a little more just for the direction, though it's not always accurate, but I own a Passport for now.

I really only use it on longer trips on the highway. Gives a two-mile (no exaggeration) warning on this one stretch of I-25 where highway patrol usually sits using radar.

just make sure to do the research cuz a cheap fuzzbuster is something you dont want. mine has saved me many times. But just remember, just cuz you got one does not mean you should drive like a bat outta hell. Mine is more for entertainment and because it compleat the look of the car.

This topic has gone around before...

V1 is a "hands down" for me. Over a dozen years with mine now, and after VARIOUS models before it, nothing else compares.;)

V1 has paid for itself DOZENS OF TIMES over the years... but don't forget, it's JUST A TOOL!

Always understand your "enemy" (different from state to state and region to region) and don't underestimate the power of perception on your part. If you don't KNOW how to properly and effectively use ALL your senses AND tools, you are GOING to get a ticket at some point.

V1 IS one of the MOST useful tools for avoiding tickets, but it is no guarantee.

G/L!

Thanks alot guys, definetly going with the v1,
been looking around for a couple days and im see
so many tests done betweent he v1 and passport.

From those tests done, the v1 blows the passport
away no doubt.

Most of the BMW crowd leans toward the V1 as well. They also do some pretty sweet stealth installs. :)

the valentine is a nice detector, IF you like false alerts. that thing has been dubbed, the chicken little of detectors. for me, i'll stick with me bel rx65 with its nice led display.

also, i dont agree with the testing methodology of those guysoflidar dudes. if i was driving around with radar absorbing foam surrounding my detector, then i would listen to them, but the real world is different. a bel can detect radar from 9 miles away. if a valentine can detect from 12 miles, does that make it better? no, they both give you adequate time to react.

you should also try to be realistic about what a detector can actually do for you. in my case, not much. i live in seattle and the local PD dont have the time to sit around writing tickets. infact, i dont think they even carry radar guns in their cars. but they can get you by pacing or just plain estimation. the real problem for me is the state patrol on the freeways. and they use laser. i dont care what detector you have. you get zero warning before you are clocked by laser. if they're legal in your area, you can try a laser jammer, but they're expensive, and im not sure how well they work.

now my parents live in a small city and those county police love their radar. straight line, around a corner, over a hill, it doesnt matter, i see them before they see me.

still, like someone here has already said, its just a tool. not perfect. POP radar can be a danger if you are the only one on the road and laser is always a danger. then theres helicopters/airplanes that can get you and police can simply pace you or even just estimate.

ran the v1 great

Ran the escort great

as a matter fact i think i got a thread around here from sometime ago about radars

edit:

My experience with Escort 8500 x-50

i also thought somewhere i had left some good feed back the v1 as i ran my fathers for a while, but i cant seem to find it.

Cant go wrong with the v1 and its arrows but you can save some money and get an escort/bel for slightly less with similar performance

i know its not in the listing, but i have been using my Cobra XRS-9930 for a long long time, its saved my ass a good couple of times, but the times i got cought was because i forgot to turn it on lol. its not the best of radar detectors, but for a price of like 75$ at costco its not bad at all. laser is shitty, i know what you are talking about in seattle not really having to worry about the cops. not even enough room to speed lol. but the only thing that you get use to but can be annoying is the false alarms, but if you are driving through a city and you do this every day, you figure out what ones are real and fake really quick.

I think the V1 is missing some important features for me, which is why I would buy the Bel STi Driver.

I currently own an RX-65 which has worked out fine as well.

Some people don't like the blue lights on the Escort as well.

Most all radar detectors have a city mode to cut down on false alarms, and from what i remember the Escort can be expanded with a laser jammer (keep in mind they only delay it as once you're close enough it will get a clear enough signal, but by that time you should have gotten back to the speed limit).

Personally, I use my eyes and I know the area well and know where they sit. If you're an attentive driver, you'll know where they're likely to sit (I drive for a living).
