Pretty much had the worst time with them today.
Basically here is the story. I've been running onboard audio on my motherboard for awhile now. But I wanted to upgrade my sound system for the computer so I bought a cheap 7.1 sound card at Best Buy today. Its a "Rocketfish" brand, but whatever it was cheap and was what I was looking for.
So I get home, physical installation is easy enough, took all of 2 minutes. Then the fun part starts. I fire up my computer and pop in the CD that came with the card. It starts on the driver installation well enough, then starts prompting me for a file "P17.sys". So I do a quick search on the CD for the file. Its not on the CD, but thats where the installer is looking for it. So I thought that was a little odd, but I had a backup plan anyway.
So I go on the Rocketfish website and download the latest drivers for the sound card. I install those and restart my computer like it asks, no problem. I start my computer back up and look in the hardware manager, next to my new sound card it has that little yellow indicator for "no drivers installed". So I uninstall the drivers, reinstall, restart. Same thing.
So I give rocketfish tech support a call. They really have no idea whats going on and transfer me to geek squad. So I go through all the transfers at geek squad (3) till they get me to the right department and realize that I'm not asking for help with a computer I bought from them. So after talking with the lady for a few minutes and getting nowhere she says "Uh...well...*click*" and hangs up on me.
So at this point I'm furious and call back customer support with all the pleasantries aside. Finnally I get back to the department I'm supposed to be talking to and the guys says basically that if I wanted help, I would have to pay them $139.99 to come out to my house and take a look. Mind you this sound card cost $24.99. I kindly told him that I would rather smash my sound card in my driveway than do that.
So thats my experience with the "Geek Squad" today, and my sound card still doesn't work.
