i was just wondering could someone explain the diff. in offset vs backspacing when it comes to wheels?

backspacing = distance from the back edge of the wheel to the mounting surface of the wheel

offset = distance from the centerline to the mounting surface of the wheel.
negative offset - mounting surface of the wheel is behind the centerline
positive offset - mounting surface of the wheel is in front of the centerline
