Before I get involved and purchase anything, how difficult is it to install the head studs with the motor still in the car? I was reading that it was difficult compared to the head bolts but was also told to use the head studs. Thanks

If you're taking off the head, which you should be, it's not any harder.

Lol, I need to do that to my mechanic, who refused to put in the studs. (Said it was too much extra labor, had to move the engine, blah blah blah.) He wasn't interested in doing the job if I wanted studs. So...I just decided to go w/ bolts. I called a place to order ARP bolts from and the guy goes why wouldn't you go studs, I told him the above and he practically laughed and said the mechanic had no idea. I didn't care enough between studs and bolts to bring it up again so I just figured w/e....JustAnotherVictim said:

jscspeed.com is a shop by my way and they have great prices. On the section where they sell the arp head bolts and stud they have a little write up.

But yeah, there ARE some things he's correcting next week. He told me of them before I left, said to drive 500mi and come back so we could make sure nothing else developed. Its been like 650 so I'm back in next wed.
He thought the studs would require him to shift the engine over a bit to clear the firewall. Don't ask me....
Taking it back, he's going to:
-Remove REUSED Toyota headbolts torqued to 60ftlbs, replacing w/ ARP headbolts @ 76ftlbs.
-Reconnect my oil & temp gauges (Yeah, he somehow managed to not connect the oil gauge and to wire the temp into the vacuum system----not kidding)
-Reconnect my back-up lights (Yup, he disconnected that)
-Inspect the vac system he managed to create a leak in somewhere.
-Install the new PPS Hardline JAV is sending me for an AWESOME price. (Thanks!!!!) since right now he has that connection on a hose draped over the engine block.
-Install an MBC I got from Dr. Jonez.
Yeah I think that's about it....
Plus next week my air intake and turbo timer come in, those go on on the weekend with my new speakers! Yay I'm happy.

Yeah, it killed me cuz all my parents, grandparents, and Uncle's family has ALL gone to him for YEARS and he usually does great work and we don't have probs and its a good price. He's been in the business since before I was born.
But, he's moving to N. Carolina within the first 1/2 of '07 and selling the shop. He was swamped with work (usually is) at the time he was working on it. I think he just got rushed and got sloppy. But it royally pissed me off.
